FRS Kindergarten was established almost 40 years ago. It is registered for 60 children and they are divided by age into three groups: Chicks, Cygnets and Swans. All the children attend five mornings a week 09.15-12.15 during term time. The Kindergarten also offers a breakfast club from 8.15-9.15am and an ‘extended day’ session from 12.15pm-2.45pm for an additional charge, to accommodate the needs of working families.
FRS Kindergarten is an inclusive Reform Jewish Kindergarten attached to the Synagogue where Jewish religion and culture are a living part of the daily curriculum. Kabbalat Shabbat takes place each Friday with blessings and songs and the Jewish festivals are celebrated as they occur through stories, music, drama, creative work and cookery, and parents and families are often invited to celebrate too.
The outcomes of the last OFSTED inspection in 2016, graded the overall quality of the provision as outstanding. It was reported: “Staff have a superb understanding of each child’s needs. Children have access to an environment where they are emotionally safe and very confident. Children behave extremely well, They learn to share, take turns and be mindful of each other. They learn about their own religion and how to value differences found in others… Children are learning key skills quickly and are remarkably well prepared to move onto school.”
